Hechiciero 2.0

As Bob and the Bible said "If you don't know your past, you don't know your future":Benjamin Perlitz was born in Romania around 1880. Apparently his parents died when he was young, and he obtained a job working on the Rosenthal Estate grounds as a Gardner or a Baker. They both emigrated to the United States and subsquently married Esther Rosenthal. Ben had a brother Samuel, who had photography studio in Yonkers, NY. The son in law of Sam Perlitz had the surname of Wachtel. "http://popajohn.homepage.com/Taubman.html"This picture shows my Great Grandmother Ester Perlitz (Maiden name Rosenthal). Another story of my family tree is that around 1880 there was a supposedly wealthy landowner, who lived in Romania, with a Surname of Rosenthal (Might have been a different spelling) who had a son named Sam. Sam Rosenthal married Sopora (Sylvia) (last name unknown) This affulent family arrived in the USA around 1900. I believe they had 11 children, one was Ester Rosenthal, who eventually married Ben Perlitz.Thursday"The other side of my Family History continued around the 1800s in a small town in Southern Russia near Kiev. A landmark was the Babi Yar River/Ravine Cliff. Chiam met _________? They had a total of 7 children. My fathers lived in a town called Nejin. Apparently, the females were left behind in Russia. The first boy to immigrate was Bernard, who was 18. He wound up in Winnipeg, Canada (the spelling of my sur- name might have been changed slightly), Morris was next, who wound up in NYC. Harry (Aaron -- born in 1894) , was the third to leave He also ended up in Winnipeg.Around 1915, Harry around WW1, avoiding the Russian Conscription. Harry snuck (emigrated) across the enemy lines into Germany. He wound up in Hamburg. After saving some money, he made his way over to Liverpool, and got a new job as a horse attendant. His goal was to come to America, where he thought the streets were lined with gold.Harry, not speaking English, wound up in Buenos Aires, South America (we believe that this was an accident). He worked his way back to Liverpool and eventually made his way to NY around 1916.The story about Harry and his trip to Canada is very sketchy. He eventually got a job as a waiter and met Celia Helfman. Harry tried to get a job shoveling snow in Staten Island, for 25 cents an hour, but when he got to the work site, all the jobs had been filled, and he returned to Manhattan.Harry apparently answered an add in the Jewish Newspaper," Forwarts," placed by Celia. Her family manufactured Candy. They got married, lived on the Lower East Side at East 5th Street. They subsequently moved to Bensonhurst, Brooklyn at 1457 81 Street and moved immediately after they were married April 24th, 1924.Regarding my Fathers' mother side, in the 1880s, in Russia, Abraham Helfman met Ruby (Rossel?), They produced approximately 7 children. Cecila Helfman was one of those children who met a young emigrant named Aaron, whom she married and opened up a a furnishing store in the Bronx. Cecelia and Harry had 2 kids, Herbert and Regina.Another Helfman was Mini Messing, who married ? Kaufman, They had 2 kids, Rubin and Flori. Flori died of Stomach Cancer. They had 2 kids, David Kaufman (of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) and Sharon.Another Child of Abe and Ruby Helfman was Yetta Starkin, who had 2 kids, Shirley married Leon Brawn. (They had 2 kids Mark and Neil. ) The other child was Lenore Gallinson who had 2 kids, (Allen an Accountant at Boston University) and Janice. (Janice got divorced and Lives in Florida.)Another Child of Abe and Ruby was Irving, who had 2 kids, Gene and Marilyn.Another child was Martin, who had 2 kids, Sheldon and Aldo.Sam? Rubin?Another child might have disappeared.FridayI discussed my Genealogy with a helpful expert (GFS Jan) who felt that I needed to know:When my great grandfather Mr. Kopf arrived in the US, ( that would be my starting point). She advised getting the census record for where my family lived in 1920. (which would tell the year of arrival, whether or not he was naturalized, and the date). The Naturalization papers and the ship manifest will give me the name of the town where he was born.It was suggested that I locate the Death Certificate, and marriage records
